Academic Integrity in the Age of Generative AI

Generative AI is now part of student and academic workflows. Rather than banning it outright, most institutions are moving toward disclosure-based policies.

The core principle: AI cannot be an author because it cannot take responsibility. Humans remain accountable for accuracy, originality and ethics.

For coursework and research, a short statement in the methods or acknowledgements section — noting which tools were used and how — usually satisfies policy requirements.

Teachers can model this by disclosing AI in their own materials, teaching students that transparency is a professional norm, not a confession.
